Articles About Children, Adolescents and Adults
Using the latest assessment tools it is now possible to pinpoint the cognitive strengths and weaknesses of children and adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome. This condition, much more common than is generally thought, effects learning, behaviour, socialisation, memory, language and movement.
It is now possible, using the NEPSY-2 test, to create a profile of the person’s strengths and weaknesses and this information can be translated into educational plans which can be measured over time.
The NEPSY-2 measures with great specificity the following skills:
Attention and Executive Functioning -These tests measure how well a child can plan, organize, change, and control behaviour.
Language – These tests measure how well a child understands and uses words and sentences to communicate with others.
Memory and Learning-These tests measure how a child takes in, stores, and remembers information.
Sensorimotor -These tests measure how well a child can control hand movements.
Social Perception-These tests measure how well a child understands other people’s feelings and thoughts.
Visuospatial Processing-These tests measure how well a child sees and
arranges visual information.
The NEPSY-2 is easy to administer and along with a traditional test of intelligence and pragmatic language can lead to improvement in school, home and community functioning.
